There have been reports of possible false negative #COVID19 test results in the general public. There is also the potential for false negative COVID-19 test results among #kidneytransplant recipients on #immunosuppression. However , research is ongoing to confirm or determine the extent of false negative test results.
"I received a text from my dialysis clinic that they are out of masks and my husband/caregiver and I will now need to reuse our masks. I do peritoneal every night at home but I have to order my supplies from the clinic (they have since made it possible for me to order masks directly from my home dialysis provider in April). I posted on FB so my friends would understand how very real and close to home the lack of supplies. An unexpected thing happened: loving friends offering to sew reusable/washable cloth masks for us. I am so thankful for the people in my community offering this! But this should not be happening. Medical professionals and their patients should not be forced to REUSE masks!" - Elizabeth Fortune

This week , NKF joined with the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) in a joint letter to the Acting Secretary of Homeland Security and the Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in advocating for a release of any remaining PPE from the Strategic National Stockpile to help all patients , but in particular , those at higher risk: chronic kidney disease patients , patients on dialysis , and transplant recipients. While we recognize that many local businesses and national companies have stepped up to produce PPE , and the federal government has distributed this equipment to many states with critical shortages , it is simply not enough. Without adequate PPE supplies we cannot keep patients , or those who care for them , safe during this national pandemic. Click the link in our bio to read the letter.
Social distancing is important to stopping the spread of #COVID19 , but it’s especially important for kidney patients. Hundreds of thousands of patients rely on us - we're doing our part. Help keep our patients safe; #stayhome and stay apart.

We are living in extraordinary times but we need to continue to be focused on the health and safety of our kidney patient community. Some of our Kidney Walks have been cancelled or postponed but many have transitioned to virtual Walks! One virtual #KidneyWalk has already taken place in Florida , and we are incredibly moved by how the Fort Meyers community creatively came together during this challenging time. Instead of gathering in one place , teams walked separately in their own neighborhoods while practicing social distancing and broadcasting their Walks simultaneously on Facebook. How awesome is that Check to see if your Walk is going virtual at kidneywalk.org. #KidneyWalkVirtual 📷: Laura Killeen

You cannot be denied #dialysis if you have #COVID_19. The CDC has issued interim guidance for patients on dialysis who have the virus and all centers should be following these guidelines. Visit the link in our bio for more information.
“ONE month #KidneyStrong.
What an insane month it has been. I went from isolating at home alone , to isolating with the entire world. From being told to not eat so many things , to being told to eat MORE. From 20 years of scary doctors appointments with so much bad news , to leaving appointments with tears of joy in my eyes.
Today I left my one month post-op appointment and was told that I can drive again (!!!) and stop one of my two blood pressure medications , because my BP is now low because my kidney is actually doing its job lol (what!). My doctors appointments are now once a month instead of once a week , and labs are only once a week instead of twice. My medication list when I left the hospital was over 20 medications long , now it’s 6.
What a difference a month can make in literally changing my whole life. I am baffled and amazed by this whole process. Of course it hasn’t all been sunshine and daisies , I have had some not-so-fun side effects from medication , I am immunosuppressed forever , but it’s all about perspective. I feel like this is a lesson the whole world is learning right now , health is our number 1 priority. Without health , there is nothing. [My donor] Amelia and I will be getting matching tattoos in the future to commemorate this epic thing we did together that has changed us both for the better. She really is something special. The support has been overflowing , thanks for helping me get through this. It’s only up from here!!” Congratulations @anyaismyname!!

Having #covid_19 can delay your #transplant evaluation if you or your donor are still infectious. You should discuss this with your transplant center. For more on Transplant and COVID-19 , visit kidney.org/coronavirus.
