Please don’t let your 2020 be just like your 2019. :: This year so far , well , it’s kinda been like falling down an escalator with ice cubes flying everywhere and acting like nothing happened. Laughing my ass off at this video because I can relate. It’s been a really freakin’ TOUGH YEAR with extra spicy mustard. There have been so many moments of shaking fists at the sky asking , “what’s the POINT of all this!” And it seems like a lot of people I know got the full smackdown and some extra elbows off the top rope for good measure on a physical , emotional , mental and financial level. For some reason , this year has felt extra challenging , turbulent and downright confounding. :: So , in a few weeks , we get another year (and another decade , although technically the new decade doesn’t actually start until 2021 but we’re not splitting hairs!) Things are important. We often need new clothes , appreciate new tech , and who is disappointed when someone gives them a new way to make coffee Plus receiving things is nice , and the joy of giving is unmatched. We love to see how excited people get giving our children , and the smile it brings to their face when opening them. But far too often when we buy something new for ourselves or a loved one , their health never comes to mind. But what better gift could you give yourself or someone else than health and wellness #WellnessOverThings…in Action Reducing things is pretty trendy right now. @MarieKondo and her method of tidying up is not only mentioned by Matt and Doug often on NMA Radio (it really did change our lives) , but it has also gone totally mainstream with a Netflix show everyone seemed to be talking about. Most people these days are thinking about decluttering , minimalism , and downsizing more and more. But in all those cases , it’s not just about reduction , it’s about being intentional and focusing on what’s important. And that’s exactly what we’re trying to do with Wellness Over Things. Encouraging ourselves (and you!) to focus on the most important thing: Wellness. Because when you’re healthy , you feel good. And when you feel good , you’re a better partner , parent , friend , and athlete. Here are just a few examples of what that could look like: - Subscription service to a health app like Headspace or Aaptive. - Gym or yoga studio membership. - Gift certificate to a plant-based food delivery service like Veestro or Purple Carrot. - Health books and cookbooks. - Online wellness programs that focus on fitness , nutrition , or mindset. It wouldn’t be hard to create a list 5x as long , and that’s the point… There are countless ways to invest in wellness this holiday season. So take your interests and the interests of your loved ones , and double down on wellness. I mean , it’s a fine line , right 🤷🏽‍♂️ :: People will think of you what they will. They’ll have their opinions and judgements of you no matter what you do. Naughty Nice Good Bad It’s all just an opinion. :: And opinions are like assholes: everyone’s got one. The issue is that opinions are treated like facts in our society right now. :: All of this is to say: you do you. And the less you allow the opinions of others to affect your being , the more free you’re gonna feel. 👊 :: Real freedom is achieved through self-inquiry , an open mind and heart , a willingness to work on one’s bullshit and trauma while being disciplined and consistent with the things that MATTER. Don’t let anyone tell you how to live your life , or what to believe in , or how you SHOULD be doing anything.
